  /---( beam #3 editorial )------------------------------------( shine )-··

well guys, this will be the very last issue of your favorite artmag.

      the beam of light
      quickly fades to darkness
and only a memory of what
      light was once remains

(woohoo, this one sounds cool, i should have put that into scrollz... =) )
don't ask me for any explanations. scene changed, life changed, i changed.
i said everything i wanted to. well, not really. the things i REALLY want
to say will be in one of the next fos issues.
so much about the content of beam #3. it's just a minimalized version,
because i wasn't in the mood for drawing all the screens and writing
  all that stuff.

i think beam's main problem and main goal was to attract people from the
ansi- and ascii- as well as from the hires-scene. but instead of being
a kind of bridge between all those different styles every scene
just climbed higher, hiding in its ivory tower.
you have to get closer and drop your prejudices against other parts of the
artscene. on the whole, ew are just ONE scene. and i think the difference
between ansi, ascii and hires art is not that big even it might be
not that obvious at first glance.

a big big thank you goes out to everybody who helped me to create beam:
kyp (without him i wouldn't have even started), the unconciousness,
hellfire, leo, zippy and arlequin, everybody who supported us by writing,
  drawing or just voting.
and of cause you, who leeched it and read that crap.

it was fun to do, but now it's time for me to start something new.

                                              signing off,
                                              shine :: bm / beam

  /---( famous last words ) ----------------------------( shine )-··

here are some basic statements given a thousand times by different people
with different opinions. so here is no. 1001 by shine.

  = cross releases =
doing cross releases is a nice thing. if people of three different
groups worked on a pic it's just natural that every group want to present
this pic in their next pack. but don't overdo this. i was a bit surprised
leeching several recent artpacks and seeing the same picture again and
again. so if you are in two or more groups: don't release the same pic
in every pack. it makes looking at artpacks damn boring. choose one
group and release it there. and just there.

  = ripoffs =
not much to say about that. ripping of any kind sucks. if you lack in
creative ideas and skills, go leave the scene and work in an office
instead. maybe it's better for you.

  = original art vs. comic-rip =
there are good comic-rips out there, no question. and i don't think
it's that bad to be inspired by your favourite comic character. but all
those 1:1 rips of comic covers suck. it has no soul because the artist
used other people's way of expression. using a comic as a basis for your
pics and just ripping off a pic 1oo% identically is a huge difference.
see above for what i think about ripping.
i prefer doing/watching original stuff. i think it's more cool to play
around using your fantasy to the max. but everyone have to decide this
for his own. and i never will force anyone to do original stuff or
  anything at all.
